ABSENCES
If your child is absent from the school day, there is no need to contact the 21st Century Afterschool Program. If your child is present from the school day but will not be attending after school classes, you must notify both the school as well as the 21st Century Afterschool program. The best way to notify the school is via a written note sent to school with your child. In the event that this cannot happen, please call the school to inform of the change in transportation plan. If a child does not have a note, and a phone call has not been made, we will contact the parent to verify your child’s absence from the 21st Century Afterschool Program.

DISCIPLINE POLICIES
21st Century Afterschool Program Students are expected to abide by all policies already in place at Hau’ula Elementary School as well as those put in place by 21st Century Afterschool Program staff to create a safe, supportive environment. Students who have demonstrated success during the school day are more likely to be successful in the afterschool Program. Therefore, in order to participate in 21st Century Afterschool program, all students must demonstrate success during the school day, by behaving according to the Hau‘ula Elementary Schools student success guidelines:
E Hōʻihi, E ʻauamo, E Mālama: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. In the event of
misbehavior at 21st Century Afterschool Program, parents will be contacted by the teacher. In the event of 2 two discipline reports for similar behavior, the child will be unable to attend after school classes the next program day after the 2nd referral. In the event that a child’s misbehavior creates an unsafe environment for themselves and/or the other children, the parents of the child will be called to pick up immediately, depending on the severity of the offense, your child will be terminated from Hau’ula Elementary Schools 21st Century Programs. The primary goal of the afterschool Program is to provide a safe environment for all children. If a student is exhibiting aggressive or extreme behaviors, they may be asked to take a leave from the afterschool program until such time that these behaviors have improved. Please remember that the 21st Century Afterschool Program is an Academic Enrichment and Intervention Program, and is not designed to be a child care program.

PICK UP POLICY
Activities end at 2:15pm & 3:15pm during the school year, parents are expected to pick up their children no later than 10 minutes after class is scheduled to end. Local authorities may be contacted for assistance in the event that a student does not get picked up and attempts to locate the parent/guardian or emergency contacts are unsuccessful. VISITORS
All visitors need to check in with the 21st Century site coordinator.

the school district. On days when there is no school, the 21st KCLC programs are not in session. On days when there is school but it becomes necessary to cancel classes, parents will be notified immediately.

ACCIDENTS OR ILLNESS

CHILDREN BELONGINGS
Parents are advised not to allow their children to bring valuables to the program. If they do, it is at their own risk. The After School Program is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please check for child’s belongings each day before leaving the program. All items and belongings should be labeled with the child’s name. Children’s personal property such as jackets, clothing, school bags, etc. must be taken home daily. Any personal property left at the program will be placed in a “Lost and Found” box. Although staff attempts to help children stay organized, the program cannot be responsible for lost personal property.

HOMEWORK
21st KCLC staff will encourage each child to use this time wisely and assist as much as possible; however, parents are responsible for ensuring homework completion and accuracy.

FIELD TRIPS

permission is required before a child can participate in a field trip. Also, inappropriate school
behavior or failure to comply with program goals can result in denial of field trip privileges.

HEALTH/ACCIDENT PROCEDURES

reached, the site coordinator /staff will call the local emergency unit for treatment and/or to transport the child to the hospital for treatment. DISCIPLINE PLAN
1st offense: Teacher talks to student and notifies the parent both verbally and in writing about the incident.
2nd offense: site coordinator conferences with student and parent in person regarding the situation.
An incident letter will be drafted and the site coordinator notifies and consults with School Principal and Project Director to determine whether or not the student should be withdrawn from the program for the remainder of the year (or other duration).

SAFETY PLAN
In case of a school emergency, please wait for official communication from the school or public safety officials before taking steps to call or rush to the school campus. You can also check the Department website or Twitter feed for emergency updates as well as local TV/Radio stations for official school news alerts.
